Nick Scholfield

As a professional, Nick quickly forged a reputation as a talented, admired and reliable horseman who played a pivotal role in the rags-to-riches story of Hunt Ball, whose demolition job in the 2012 Northern Trust Novices’ Handicap Chase was the jockey’s first winner at the Cheltenham Festival.

That was followed by Qualando (Fred Winter) and Sky Pirate (Grand Annual), while Grade 1 victories were recorded on Melodic Rendezvous (Tolworth), Irving (Fighting Fifth), Adrien Du Pont (Finale Juvenile Hurdle) and San Benedeto (Maghull Novices’ Chase).

The Devon native, whose best season came with 66 winners in 2012-13, earned his most valuable success in the 2023 Betfair Hurdle on Aucunrisque and, little over two years after that strike, Nick called time on his near-20-year riding career, which yielded more than 650 winners.

Along with 14-time champion trainer Nicholls, he was also associated with some of jumping’s most prominent figures, including the legendary Jonjo O’Neill, and he intends to blend the best of their methods with his hands-on, professional and personal approach to training.

Deeply ambitious, he continues to ride out to get a feel for the string and was intrigued by the puzzle horses posed during his time as a jockey, which left him with a burning desire to train.

Based on Lambourn’s Folly Road at Felstead Court, he has easy access to some of Britain’s best gallops and facilities, and is keen to make the journey of ownership a successful and enjoyable one.
