Mi Sueño: 1-2-1 and a Dream Start for the Racing Club

When Mi Sueño joined the Nick Scholfield Racing Club, we hoped he would give members plenty of days out and something to get excited about. Three runs, two wins and a second later, it’s fair to say he has delivered exactly that.

His first three starts for the yard produced the rather brilliant form figures of 1-2-1 – all within the space of a week.

First run, first win

Mi Sueño wasted absolutely no time in introducing himself to Racing Club members, heading to Newton Abbot for his first start for Nick and promptly giving the Club its first ever winner. It was a hugely exciting day for everyone involved. He travelled and jumped well, and everything fell into place to give us the result we had all hoped for. More importantly, he came home full of confidence and in great order.

Back to Newton Abbot

With Mi Sueño bouncing out of his first victory, we returned to Newton Abbot just a few days later. This time he was a little higher in the weights and we knew things might not fall quite as perfectly into place. The hat-trick of dreams wasn't quite to be later on, but at this stage he continued his excellent start by finishing second, keeping his remarkably consistent run going and showing us that his first victory had been no flash in the pan.

Back to winning ways at Stratford

Then came Stratford. Despite the quick turnaround, Mi Sueño had been bucking and kicking in the field after his previous run and was giving us every indication that he was ready to go again. Stratford was also a course he'd run well at previously, so Nick decided it was worth taking our chance.

And what a decision it proved to be.

Mi Sueño cruised to victory, barely seeming to break a sweat. Even a slight fluff at the final hurdle couldn't stop him winning convincingly. Harry Reed reported afterwards that he never really had to get after him and always felt he had something left in hand.

Three runs. Two wins. One second. 1-2-1.

For a new Racing Club horse, it's difficult to imagine a much better start. What has perhaps been most encouraging is how well Mi Sueño has taken his racing. Each time he has returned home bright, happy and full of himself – on more than one occasion celebrating by careering around the field the following morning!

As long as he continues to be fit, healthy and enjoying his racing, we'll continue to look for the right opportunities for him. With options both over hurdles and potentially on the Flat, there should hopefully be plenty more days out ahead. Most importantly, Mi Sueño has already done exactly what we hoped a Racing Club horse would do: bring members together, take them racing and give everyone something to cheer about.

And after a start of 1-2-1, we're very much enjoying the ride.
